Filipe Canelas Pinto and Sofia Canelas
Pinto are professional classical dressage riders. The classical dressage has started
thousands years ago when the horse riding as started. The concern on
proper horse riding have a long history, for instance Xenophon has
written " The art of horsemanship" from ancient Greece times. In
Portugal, the horse has been very important since its foundation used as
an advantage in war. In the XVIII century Manuel Carlos Andrade has
written in detail about riding in the book "Luz da Liberal e Nobre Arte
da Cavalaria" which occurs in the same century of the establishment from
the Portuguese Art Riding School "Picaria Real". In the XX century the
great dressage master in Portugal Nuno Oliveira and his students, such
as D. Diogo Bragança, from their interpretation of the old classical
dressage school, have brought new prespectives in the "modern" classical
dressage.
Competing in classical dressage in Portugal General Reymão Nogueira
and Luis Falcão Mena e Silva have been some of the most notable riders
from the XX century. The first, between 1933 and 1963, has won several
International Dressage competitions and has taken part in the Olympic
Games from Helsinki and Rome. The second, between
1920 and 1961, had notable International curriculum from not only in
Classical Dressage but also in Show Jumping competitions, including a bronze
medal in the London Olympic games from 1948 and a bronze medal in the
Berlin Olympic games in 1936. Nowadays, Filipe Canelas Pinto is amongst
the best classical dressage riders competing in Portugal. |
